What is the composition of the WDM System

Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) system is a technology that utilizes optical signals of different wavelengths to transmit and multiplex in optical fibers. The basic principle is to simultaneously send multiple optical signals of different wavelengths into the same optical fiber, and separate and merge them through reasonable optical devices to achieve signal transmission and multiplexing.

 

The components of an optical multiplexing system mainly include the following:

 

Optical Multiplexer (MUX): A wavelength division multiplexer combines multiple optical signals of different wavelengths into the same optical fiber or separates optical signals of different wavelengths into different optical fibers.

 

Optical Fiber: Optical Fiber serves as a transmission medium to transmit optical signals from the transmitting end to the receiving end. Fiber optic cables are usually divided into Single Mode Fiber (SMF) and Multi Mode Fiber (MMF), depending on system requirements.

 

Optical Amplifier: Optical amplifiers are used to enhance the strength of optical signals to overcome the loss of optical signals during transmission.

 

Optical Demultiplexer(DEMUX): The DEMUX separates multiple wavelength signals multiplexed in a single optical fiber, allowing them to be received separately by the receiving end.

 

OTU: Convert conventional SDH optical signals into signals suitable for DWDM transmission.

 

Monitoring Channel (OSC): A channel dedicated to transmitting monitoring systems.
