What to pay attention to when using fiber optic transceivers

Fiber optic transceivers have various classifications, but in practical use, most attention is paid to the categories distinguished by different fiber optic connectors: SC connector fiber optic transceivers and FC/ST connector fiber optic transceivers. When using fiber optic transceivers to connect different devices, it is important to note that different ports are used.
1. Connection of fiber optic transceiver to 100BASE-TX equipment (switch, hub):
Confirm that the maximum length of the twisted pair cable does not exceed 100 meters. Connect one end of the twisted pair cable to the RJ-45 port (Uplink port) of the fiber optic transceiver, and the other end to the RJ-45 port (regular port) of the 100BASE-TX device (switch, hub).
2. Connection of fiber optic transceiver to 100BASE-TX device (network card):
Confirm that the maximum length of the twisted pair cable does not exceed 100 meters. Connect one end of the twisted pair cable to the RJ-45 port (100BASE-TX port) of the fiber optic transceiver, and the other end to the RJ-45 port of the network card.
3. Connection of fiber optic transceiver to 100BASE-FX:
Confirm that the length of the fiber optic cable does not exceed the distance range provided by the device. Connect one end of the fiber optic cable to the SC/FC/ST connector of the fiber optic transceiver, and the other end to the SC/ST connector of the 100BASE-FX device.
Additionally, it should be noted that many users believe that when using fiber optic transceivers, as long as the length of the fiber is within the maximum distance supported by single-mode or multi-mode fibers, it can be used normally. In fact, this is a mistaken understanding, which is only correct when the connected devices are all full duplex devices. When there are half duplex devices, there is a certain limit to the transmission distance of optical fibers.
4. The fiber optic transceiver transmission conversion signal protocol is point-to-point transmission, bidirectional transmission, and needs to be used in pairs without the need for separate transmitters and receivers.
5. If it is necessary to convert the optical port of the fiber optic switch into an electrical port for use, when using a fiber optic transceiver, it is necessary to pay attention to whether the parameters of the fiber optic module of the switch can match and be compatible with the parameters of the fiber optic transceiver.
