A fiber optic connector consists of a fiber optic cable and a plug at both ends of the fiber optic cable. The plug is composed of a pin and a peripheral locking structure. According to different locking mechanisms, fiber optic connectors can be divided into FC type, SC type, LC type, ST type, and KTRJ type.
The FC connector adopts a threaded locking mechanism, which is one of the earliest and most commonly used fiber optic active connectors.
SC is a rectangular connector developed by NTT, which does not require threaded connections and can be directly inserted and removed. Compared with FC connectors, it has smaller operating space and is convenient to use. Low end Ethernet products are very common.
LC is a Mini type SC connector developed by LUCENT, which has a smaller volume and is widely used in systems. It is a direction for the development of fiber optic active connectors in the future. Low end Ethernet products are very common.
The ST connector was developed by AT&T company and uses a bayonet locking mechanism. Its main parameter indicators are similar to FC and SC connectors, but it is not widely used in the company and is usually used for multi-mode device connections. It is more commonly used when docking with equipment from other manufacturers.
The pins of MTRJ are made of plastic and positioned through steel pins. As the insertion and extraction times increase, various mating surfaces will wear out, and their long-term stability is not as good as ceramic pin connectors.
